Factory Size

Postby Scoffer25 on Sun Jun 14, 2009 3:37 pm

Just a quick question on factory size, does it effect the cost of running the factory or not?

Basically what i'm thinking is for the heavy industry goods. since the size of them is 10k square feet would a tiny factory be good for them or would it be better to buy a small factory (25k) and put 2 production lines in it? Just wondering if the size of the actual building effects the running costs or not since the tiny building is cheaper to build it looks like this would be the way to go and have a seperate building for each rather than trying to put 2 into a larger building.

The building itself has no effect on operating costs, the operating costs are a result of the production lines. Consider the building just the empty shell. The production lines are the machinery that actually does the work.

Bigger factories are cheaper per square foot so putting more production lines in a bigger factory is generally slightly better. But if you have 5,000 sq ft of empty space that will likely more than offset the advantage of the bigger building.

Until you have medium factory (which can hold 5 10K sq ft production lines exactly) the tiny factory is probably the best option because it contains the production line exactly.
